Sub-contractor agreements (add-on)

Hiring people on a self-employed basis? Off-payroll workers under IR35? A proper written sub-contractor agreement protects both sides and keeps HMRC out of the conversation.

What you get

  • Bespoke contract for services drafted around your engagement model
  • Right-to-substitute and control clauses worded to support IR35 self-employed status
  • IP, confidentiality and restrictive covenants that hold up
  • Termination, dispute resolution and governing law clauses
  • Optional Schedule A for project-specific scope and fees

Pricing

  • Standalone sub-contractor agreement: from £295 + VAT for a single template, drafted from your brief.
  • Bundled with the contracts and handbook package: add £150 + VAT to the £695 fee, so £845 + VAT for the lot.
  • Inside Retained HR support: drafted from your included monthly hours, no extra fee.

Worth knowing: a properly drafted sub-contractor agreement is the single biggest defensive document against an HMRC IR35 challenge or an employee tribunal claim from a self-employed worker. The cost of getting this right is a fraction of the cost of getting it wrong.

Common questions.

Contracts FAQ

Yes. If you have self-employed sub-contractors (common in trades, construction, creative agencies), the bundle can be scoped to include a sub-contractor agreement template alongside the employment contracts. Adds £150 to £300 to the fee depending on complexity. Covers scope of work, status, indemnities, IP, confidentiality, termination.
Either. We can issue contracts as PDFs for wet-signature, or push them through a digital signature flow (Breathe HR has one built in, or DocuSign and similar). Most clients prefer digital once they have seen how much faster it is.
Your contracts are written to the Employment Rights Act 2025 and its phased provisions through 2026 and 2027. The major change for the foreseeable. Smaller updates (rate changes, statutory pay tweaks) are handled by the annual review for retainer clients, or charged at £97/hr ad-hoc if you do not have a retainer.
