UK maternity, paternity and shared parental pay (2026/27)
Statutory family pay is paid at set weekly rates once an employee meets the qualifying conditions: enough continuous service and average weekly earnings of at least £129 per week.
Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP)
Paid for up to 39 weeks: the first 6 weeks at 90% of average weekly earnings, then up to 33 weeks at the lower of £194.32 or 90% of average weekly earnings. Maternity leave itself can run for up to 52 weeks.
Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP)
Up to 2 weeks, paid at the lower of £194.32 or 90% of average weekly earnings. Can now be taken in two separate one-week blocks within the first year.
Shared Parental Pay (ShPP)
Parents can share up to 37 weeks of pay (the mother’s SMP entitlement minus weeks already taken), paid at the lower of £194.32 or 90% of average weekly earnings.
